PROGRAM
Roosevelt House welcomed former Mayor of Boston Thomas Menino to celebrate the publication of his memoir Mayor for a New America, in which he takes us behind-the-scenes of the crises and triumphs of his five terms in office. Boston experienced unprecedented economic growth during Mayor Menino’s time in office — and the city became the home to a new attitude of acceptance. Mayor Menino explores the dynamics of urban politics and explains how what is possible on a local level provides inspiration for Washington. In his book he outlines the people-focused method he has tried to champion: “Do the small stuff so you can win the credibility to do the big stuff.” Mayor Menino was interviewed by Owen Gutfreund, Associate Professor of Urban Affairs and Planning at Hunter College.
