PROGRAM
The Human Rights Program presents a screening and discussion of Global Women in Music: Composers Rewriting the Score. The film highlights the Global Women in Music Concert, a groundbreaking event by the United Nations Symphony Orchestra that features music by female composers from around the world and is conducted by a female guest conductor. This concert and documentary address the gender disparity in the music industry, where only 5% of concert music is composed by women, and aim to provide a platform for women composers and conductors. The event emphasizes the role of women artists in peacebuilding, social cohesion, and sustainable development. The premiere will include a Q&A with Veronica Sabbag, Founder & Chair of United Voices 4 Peace; Ivy Koek, Co-Chair of the NGO Committee on the Status of Women; Jeff Oppenheim, Director of the Global Women in Music documentary film; and a performance by Masha Brodskaya, composer and violinist.
