Adnan Kifayat, MA

Afghanistan Task Force, U.S. Treasury Department

Adnan Kifayat currently serves on the Afghanistan Task Force at the U. S. Treasury  Department, providing policy guidance on public financial management issues in Afghanistan.

Mr. Kifayat previously served as Senior Adviser to the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs (2008-2009), focusing on global strategic communications and coordination of government-wide information strategies, and as the State Department’s director of the Global Strategic Communications Center (GSEC). From 2007-2008, he was Director for Combating Terrorism at the National Security Council, assisting the Deputy National Security Adviser and the Homeland Security Adviser on Middle East and African counterterrorism issues. He has also served on special assignments, including as an aide to Presidential Envoy James A. Baker III on Iraqi debt (2004), and negotiating a trilateral revenue sharing mechanism between Israel and the Palestinians that led to the release of over $1 billion for Palestinian development needs in 2002.

Mr. Kifayat holds a BA in Economics and International Affairs from Florida State University and an MA in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University.
